Over the weekend I took a drawing class with Doug Land, douglaslandartist.com. It was excellent! I recommend him as an instructor. He teaches at the Arts Centre in St. Petersburg, Florida and at Dunedin Art Center in Dunedin, Florida. Here are some of the drawings I created…

Drawing a portrait from a classic painting. This was a 20 minute drawing. It's beneficial to draw from master artists paintings because you learn how various artist interpret the human figure.

I also drew this after the class. It’s Pig Pen from the Grateful Dead. I drew it in honor of my friend Seth, who was a major Dead Head. Then I brought the drawing to class the next day and Doug critiqued it. I made some changes. Here’s the revision…

Much better, don’t you think?

This painting is watercolor on gesso painted paper. This one has an environmental message..Bottled water is bad for the environment and a waste of precious resources. Let’s try to stop wasting resouces that are used in bottling and transporting water to places where the tap water is even cleaner than the bottled water. Not to mention how much plastic garbage is filling our landfills!

This was inspired by one of Libit’s class projects. The watercolor paper is painted with Gesso, an acrylic paint. Then I dripped watercolors on to the dried paper. When everything dried I pullout the watercolored areas that shaped the pelicans. Then I added highlights and darker watercolor paint to accent the shapes. It looks toxic water to me.
One of the goals of many watercolor artists is to be able to paint loose. Because watercolor is difficult to control, some artist work very hard to keep it under control. But wonderful things can happen when the paint is allowed to flow. This is one of my attempts at being loose.

Payton and the bunnies
I just finished this painting for my neice Payton. It’s inspired by one of Kelly’s photos.

Katie, Laura and Deanna at Working Women of Tampabay's April Event
Last night I went to a great event held by http://www.workingwomenoftampabay.com.
I love the idea of women helping and supporting one another in their professions.
The speaker was one of my favorite people, Patricia Rossi, etiquette and protocol coach. http://www.patriciarossi.com By the way, I designed her web site.
She taught us networking etiquette tips. She’s a great speaker and very knowledgeable.
I really recommend this group, if you live in the Tampa area and want to expand your network of friends and associates come to the next event on Sat., May 9.
I’m excited to start posting some of my paintings online.
I should have some posted by the end of day today.
Stay tuned!
